Democrat; Communism was still on the rise, and a policy of containment was still enacted. He proposed tax cuts and civil rights legislation. Kennedy worked hard to oppress communism, which ended up at a failure at The Bay of Pigs. Due to his sudden assasination in office, Kennedy was unable to make as much of an effort as other Presidents during the American effort to assist in the Cold War.
Democrat; due to Kennedy's unexpected assassination and Cold War circumstances, Johnson's domestic policies focused on creating a Great Society with civil rights, health care, environment, and education policies. Along with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965, which outlawed further discrimination Johnson appointed Thurgood Marshall as the first African American justice. With the ongoing Vietnam War during the Cold War, Johnson increased American involvement after the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution.
